The Company

The Company was formed in May 2007. Stephen Crampton, CEO, has a long track-record of pioneering new product-markets and building successful start-ups.

SSL is focused on the emerging Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) Market. We intend to leapfrog the existing competition who offer MAVs which require skilled human operators. We will provide autonomous MAVs.

SSL's first project was a funded entry into the 2008 MOD Grand Challenge http://www.challenge.mod.uk/ A team of 10 world-class people was put together to compete in it. Swarm Systems won the 'Most Innovative Idea' award. SSL is now working on a follow-up project with MOD.

Management Team

Stephen Crampton – CEO
Stephen is a serial technology entrepreneur (Engineer, Imperial College London and MBA, INSEAD, France). He has built and sold technology companies in the private sector. One of his teams was the first UK team to win the EU Technology Grand Prize of 200,000 Euro in 1996. Stephen has numerous patents granted in the UK, EU, USA and Japan.

Jonathan Selbie – Business Development Director
Jonathan is a technology and business development specialist (Bristol University and INSEAD). He has worked in advanced technology development taking projects through from the concept phase to commercial product. He has worked at the pinnacle of motorsport development (Formula One).
